I pick lots of morels for market and also dig leek's to sell to high end restraunts as well. I am positive that I sell way more morels than I eat. I also dig roots and collect bark for sale.

I have a couple questions, when do you think the morel season would start approx. in MN (I dont think it would be much of a difference from you)? What do you look for in order to have any luck finding mushrooms? How can you tell the difference between the 2 or 3 different types of morels?

I would say by mid April for you there as well as here we should be picking a bunch..I find most of my blacks in and around hardwoods and the elms..Most of my whites come from grassy aspen groves and old apple orchards. The main difference in true morels is the color..ours are black or a dark brown and our whites are a off white color to a yellowish color..I can tell you if you dont know already any that the caps come off are false morels and eat those at your own risk!! I can and do eat them but many are allergic to them and become ill.. I also pick what we call beefsteaks here and they are a brownish red collor and can get very big...

Thank you for the tips! I will probably be out looking for shrooms and sheds in the next couple weeks just to see if they are out yet.
