What size trap does everyone use for coyotes? We use mainly Victor 1.75 offset jaw when fox are going to be a common catch (we have a few more red fox than coyotes, and about half as many grays as coyotes) in my area. If it is almost always coyotes we use a Victor #3 offset jaw trap, I prefer the Victor offset 1.75 trap, since it works great for coyotes, and treats fox well and holds coons.

My trap of preference for primarily coyotes is the #2 Bridger Offsets. I like these #2's for a few reasons. They bed very well, they lay flat and level, the jawspread is just enough for a good deep pad catch and they hold just about any other critter that might step into it. I've even been lucky enough to hold a few dryland mink in them.
I'm not real big on modifications to them, but I do like the additional jaw lamination and the base plate and center swivels. If I had more fox in my area, I would probably drop down to a 1.75 or 1.5, but very heavily modified just for the big dogs.

Bigger the better. Prefer #3 or #4s.

Hi I'm new here but been trapping for 30+ yrs., Josh I agree those Bridger# 2 offset's work well for fox, cats and coyotes! I don't have many fox in my area but do have a few. I have MB 550's, Bridger# 2's and MB 450 offsets that I use on my trapline. I have PIT shock spring and 4 in-line swivels set up on each trap. I just believe the more swivels with the shock springs the less foot damage and less pull outs, it's really paid off over the years. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! I mainly catch cats so I'll be posting some pictures of sets, catches etc on the cat fourm. My season doesn't start until Dec. 1st.
